Tree plantathon

Saturday 12th March was the big Tree Plantathon in the reserve.

210 trees were donated by the Woodland Trust.  Approximately 60 Hawthorn, 30 Blackthorn, 15 Rowan and 15 Hazel trees were used to make a hedgerow to border the feeding area. The hedgerow will provide both food and shelter for a variety of birds and other wildlife.

A small copse of around 15 Hazel were also planted with several Rowan and Silver Birch also planted individually.  More Silver Birch and Oak trees will be planted over the coming weeks.

Several people did a litter pick, with the reserve now looking much better. An owl box and a couple of bat boxes were also added to the reserve - many thanks to Mark and Matthew Smith.
