Planting for the future

Today the woodland planting began in earnest.  Up till now buddleia, several wildflowers and wild garlic bulbs have been planted.  Today water mint and water forget me nots have been planted around the ponds and brook.  Purple loosestrife and marsh marigolds will complete the wetland plants, when they are planted shortly.  Over the next weeks, primroses and spring bulbs such as crocuses, bluebells, snowdrops and daffodils will be planted.  Hopefully, the riot of colour next spring and summer will attract more species of insect, which will in turn attract wildlife further up the food chain.
