Raw pastry is loved by almost all birds. You can slice it into squares and put it in a fat block holder, roll it into balls and put it in a fat ball holder, push it into holes in a log feeder or just put blobs onto branches - or any other way you can think of to serve it. Here is a recipe for how to make it, you can reduce the amounts, but if you make a large amount you can cut it into blocks and freeze it until you need it.
- 500g plain flour
- 250g unsalted butter (please don't use salted) - you can also substitute with lard
- 250g grated mild cheese (very important that it's mild)
- a handful of oats (breakfast oats are fine)
- Optional - any other suitable foods for birds eg chopped/ground nuts, seeds, suet, mealworms etc
- A little water to bind it
